The Boys Season 4 Review
Holy crap, The Boys is killing it once more. It eases out Season 4 with both guns blazing. Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher is more loose cannon than ever before, and goddamn is it something to see. Guy’s like a rabid bulldog who’s tasted Compound V on his favorite chew toy, and I’m here for it.
Homelander: From Bad to Worse
Remember when we thought Homelander couldn’t get any more psycho? Yeah, about that. Antony Starr somehow dials up the crazy to eleven, giving us a Homelander who’s equal parts terrifying and mesmerizing. It’s like watching a superpowered toddler with daddy issues throwing the mother of all tantrums.
New Blood, Same Mayhem
The fresh faces this season fit right in with the chaos. Sure, Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy might not feature as much this go-around, but the new supes more than pick up the slack. Won’t spoil who shows up, but let’s just say the powersets get weird. Like, really weird. Think “what if David Cronenberg designed superheroes” weird.
Satire Sharper Than Ever
It’s always been something of a funhouse mirror for our world, but this season takes some serious swings. From the elected to the celebrity to the corporate schmuck, nobody is safe from the show’s dong-swinging wit. It’s so on-the-nose it hurts, but in that good, cathartic way.
Heart Amidst the Havoc
For all its blood and guts, The Boys hasn’t forgotten how to hit you in the feels. Hughie and Annie’s relationship goes places that I didn’t expect, and Goddamn Frenchie. man, his arc this season is something else. Bring tissues, is all I’m saying.
Kimiko Kicks Ass
Karen Fukuhara’s Kimiko continues being a scene-stealer. Her arc this season is genuinely a mixed bag of vulnerability and pure balls-to-the-wall badassery. There’s a fight scene in episode 3 that I can only describe as ‘cheer-at-your-screen’ worthy. Seriously, give this woman all of the awards.
MM’s Moral Compass
Laz Alonso returns as Mom’s Milk, continuing to be the pulse of the team. He’s still stuck between a rock and a hard place this time around. His morals seem to wrestle against him in a world gone crazy. His effort to be a good father while fighting real supervillains comes home hard.
Tech Troubles and Vought’s Virtual Villainy
This season, The Boys just goes full-bore into social media and tech, and boy, does it get messy. Vought’s damage control attempts via memes and influencers are hilariously on point. I mean, Black Mirror but with dick jokes.
Easter Eggs Galore
Eagle-eyed viewers, comic fans, keep your titties open wide, this season is full of nods to the source material that’ll have you hitting pause and rewind. One cameo had me damn near spitting out my drink.
Production Value Through the Roof
Tremblingly so. The effects team deserves a round of applause. This season’s superpowered throwdowns? Next level. There’s a sequence in Episode 6 that must have cost half the budget for this entire season, but man, if it ain’t spectacular.
Soundtrack Slaps
I don’t know who is running music choices, but I’d give that dude a raise. The needle drops this season are pitch perfect, from the nostalgic bangers to the cuts so obscure they had me sliding down Spotify rabbit holes.
Final Thoughts: Binge-Worthy Brilliance
Season 4 of The Boys blows a big ol’ dose of adrenaline straight through the heart. It’s filthy; it’s blood-soaked—in fact, there are more twists than the pretzel factory. But beneath all that blood and swearing is a show with a lot to say for itself about power, celebrity, and what it means to be a hero in a world gone to shit.
If you have been sitting on the fence about jumping back in, let this be your push. The Boys operates in full cylinders, churning out a season that will leave you in stitches, cringing, and probably thinking a bit—at least between the exploding heads.
So, grab your favorite drink, clear your day out, and let’s get in. Just remember to come up for air every now and then. This show is intense, and I do mean it as a high compliment.
